U. S. law allows use of materials for research purposes where
1) the copying is for noncommercial/nonprofit purposes,
2) the nature of the materials being copied is more factual than creative,
3) the amount being copied is a minimal portion of the total work, and
4) the copying is not being used as a means to avoid purchase.
