The Woolley lineage traces back to early eighteenth century Pennsylvania. The earliest progenitor was one Thomas Woolley. He may have been an immigrant from England, yet there are some Woolley families using the given name Thomas living in New Jersey at the time. He was not a Quaker when in 1729 he married in Philadelphia, but converted afterwards. There is a research report recounting efforts expended on attemps to identify Thomas better.
