The Hahn lineage traces back through Nelson Co., Kentucky, into Maryland and Pennsylvania. The earlier members of this line were native of German. (In 1894 some of the villages were in the Prussian Empire and some in the Kingdom of Bavaria.) The name must derive from the larger plot of land called "Hahn" for a kind of fencing construction. This is now part of an airport for Frankfurt am/Main. The Modern German word "Hahn" is the designation for a cock (rooster or faucet).
