the probability that the values in the corresponding fields of two records being compared will agree if the records are matched (cf. reliability); the a. for a field may be different for each specific value possible or it may be value non-specific; H. B. Newcombe calls this the numerator of the frequency ratio in the case of agreement — for disagreement the quantity 1 – a. may be the numerator (cf. ratio) (cf. Newcombe, 1967, p. 21).
