the probability that the values in the corresponding fields of two records being compared will agree by chance (cf. general frequency, B-squared value); the b. for a field may be different for each specific value possible or it may be non-specific; H. B. Newcombe calls this the denominator of the frequency ratio in the case of agreement — for disagreement the quantity (1 – b.) may be the denominator. (Cf. ratio)
