decay curve

the graph of a formula that describes the process of decay; it is the opposite of a growth curve; the d. c. traces a reversed J-shaped, i.e., a hyperbolic in the first quadrant; we use the d. c. to model the distribution of personal names, cf. ranking constant, RLG Chapter 5, §4, ¶6
