Newcombe points out that investigators weight different odds: 1) a frequency ratio of an outcome (field weight), 2) the product of all the frequency ratios for the comparison (comparison weight), 3) the numerator of a frequency ratio (a-ratio), 4) the denominator of a frequency ratio (b-ratio), an estimate of any of these ratios (cf. Newcombe, 1988, p. 106).
