1.12 A grammar of personal names in Chinese In China (and Hungary) the given names follow the surnames. Such an arrangement in the so-called sinotypic cultures must be characterized by a different set of phrase structure rules. The sinotypic pattern is exemplified in the following set of PS-RULES. The intended interpretation for the categories of names in China are found in some detail in the glossary.
The reader will notice that I have placed a number of class designations to the right of the relevant categories. Not knowing Chinese is a severe handicap to choosing classes that will fit with the rest of the grammar. Each one given seems to be one that best divides the content and social context of the categories that branch from the one provided with the label.
