4.3 Revival. Revival occurs when the language of one culture changes through time and a name is lost. Then at a later date the population begins to use the name again, having had it made current through literature or an increased knowlege of history. Unlike the process of borrowing, the two cultures involved are distant from each other along the dimension of time. Unlike the process of evolution, the name was not used for some period of time. Figure 1 lists examples of a few of the couple of dozen given names revived in English in modern times.
