2.8 Derivation. Some standard name spellings may derive from some other standard name, which may or may not belong in the same name group. This attribute refers to the additional standard names for which this name is also a variation, i.e., its origin. Derivations are usually language and culture-specific. Hence, a name such as Nancy, has its own name group in the modern American culture, but in the culture of a century ago it is also a nickname, being derived from a spelling in the name group of <Anne>, and a century before that also from <Agnes>, and a century before that also from <Annis>.
