2.11 Status. The status is an element of bookeeping for NADS. It gives details, for example, about the availability of different coded versions of the name that have been produced using rules, and for which languages of the world experts have developed rules.
One attribute of status is a series of flags to indicate which process on the name text has been completed. It is set when the respective index, the one keyed on a certain coding scheme, has been brought up-to-date with the current code production rules. During the creation of new production rules the key values may or may not reflect the changes made. For the most part the codes are generated by means of production rules (cf. Chapter 1, §4). Exceptionally Soundex and NYSIIS codes are generated by fixed algorithm.
