3.2.7 Italian. The rules for Italian are based on names appearing in Italy and the Italian Canton of Switzerland. The linguist has developed a set of 59 rules, all at the phonetic level of analysis. The affix rules are not developed. Since there were so few names in the sample, the decision was to class the names with variable suffixes (combining forms) together by hand as appropriate.
