interpreter

a module of the standardization process which uses a semantic resource to assign an interpretation or meaning to a set of syntactic name structures; the nature of the i. as a calculator is most evident with dates, which are assigned an appropriate Julian day number; the i. is also called an authority key calculator as it determines a standard index key, i.e. the value by which a record may be accessed; cf.
