Henry code

a name code using rules adapted to the French language; the H. c. has rules to omit silent and nasalized consonants, provide single letter equivalents to double consonants and certain combinations and to reduce diphthongs to single vowels; the H. c. uses only the first three symbols of the character string produced, cf. Chapter 1, §4
