the NYSIIS code when modified by the addition of the following rules: 1) word initially: WR > RR, RH > RR, DG > GG, vowels A; 2) drop final S or Z, YE > Y, NP , ND > N, IX > IC, EX > EC, JR > blank, SR > blank; 5) non-final Y > A, final SCH > SSA, non-final SCH > SSS, final SH > SA, non-final SH > SS, GHT > TTT, DG > GG, WR > RR; 8) initial A or initial blank > original first letter (cf. Newcombe, 1988, p. 183).
