era name |
EN |
there are three common e. n. in the western calendar:
1) the words anno domini or their initials A.D., which appear before the rest of a date,
2) the words before Christ or before the common era, or their initials B.C. or common era or their initials C.E., which appear after the year name, in a date name phrase;
the former means the year is after that in which Jesus the Christ was presumably born, and the latter before that year;
the e. n. is described in PS-RULE DP1, where it may precede the rest of the date, and in DP3 where it may follow;
in the Chinese-Japanese-Korean date phrase the e. n. has three possibilities in PS-RULE ODP6:
1) a dynasty phrase possibly together with an emperor name and a reign name,
2) an emperor name followed possibly by a reign name, or
3) simply a reign name
