Hindi-Arabic digit

a symbol developed originally by the ancient Indians but later by the Arabs and used in the universal language of mathematics to represent the numerical values from zero (0) to nine (9); the H-A. d. is named for the fingers, of which the normal human being has ten used for calculations from time immemorial the designation H-A. d. is used to refer to one form of the ordinal number described in PS-RULE [PS13]
