misspelling

any non-systematic deviant or other variant spelling of a name; a m. usually involves a misunderstanding by the writer, a misinterpretation by the reader, or a typographical error introduced in the transcription process, whereas a respelling makes no value judgement; cf. Chapter 3, §1, ¶2
