a rule specifying the structure of segments in the GRAMMAR; cf. chapter 2, ¶2; a s. s. r. subclassifies the terminal categories of the PS-RULEs and with certain restrictions also other categories; the subclassification is either by syntactic or conceptual criterial and entries having marked features are found in the LEXICON
