3.2.3 Scandinavian. The three main languages of Scandinavia were written down and codified in a relatively straightforward way based on their pronunciation over a thousand years ago. The phonetic system is different for each and each has changed somewhat, but fortunately so has the spelling, in a more or less regular way. The linguist has developed a set of 147 rules on all three levels of analysis.
